Migori residents urged to be responsible in waste disposal to promote municipalities’ hygiene

Migori County Commissioner Kisilu Mutua has urged county residents to be responsible in disposing of waste to promote cleanliness around the municipalities.

Mutua, who spoke during the Mazingira Day cleaning up exercise and tree planting session at Soko Mjinga in Migori town, urged residents to mind their living and working environments by promoting and encouraging proper waste disposal and cleanliness.

He called upon residents to assist the county government in making municipalities’ better places to live, insisting that the only way to promote a healthier environment was to join hands with municipal boards to promote safe clean spaces.

“It is not a must that you should have money to make the environment clean. Whatever little you do will go a long way in helping conserve our environment and make it a better place to live in,” said Mutua.

Migori County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Environment Julius Nyerere said that tree planting exercise was a key ingredient in changing our environment to address climate change.

Nyerere urged the county residents to make tree planting exercises a continuous culture to increase tree cover in the county and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The CEC however called upon landlords and to ensure they follow National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) regulations on proper waste disposal to promote a healthier and cleaner environment within the municipalities.

In September this year, residents of Migori town decried the uncollected cabbage that creates a lot of air and water pollution within Migori town.
