There are growing concerns in Migori County over the government directive requiring everybody to wear face masks while in public.
Locals say the decision was hurriedly imposed without prior arrangements for support from either the County Government or the National Government.
They said the County Government should have provided free masks since they had allocated money to contain the spread of the virus within the county.
According to Peter Marwa, a boda boda rider within Migori town, some people are hawking uninspected face masks, a situation which can lead to further spread of Coronavirus.
Marwa faults face masks hawkers for selling them at high prices yet their safety is not guaranteed. He faults Migori County Government Health workers for not providing explicit information on where to buy the right mask or how to make safe local face masks.
There is need for the County Coronavirus Surveillance Team to provide residents especially within densely populated areas with the right information concerning face masks, hand washing and social distancing.
However county surveillance team co-chaired by Migori Governor Zachary Obado and County Commissioner Joseph Rotich assured Migori residents that all necessary measures have been put in place to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the county.
The County Commissioner said movement of people along the international borders has been restricted but urged the residents to immediately report strangers, visitors or even their relatives visiting their villages as a key measure of containing the spread of Covid-19.
