The newly elected representatives for People Living with Disability (PLWD) in Migori County have wowed to champion unity amongst their members.
The newly elected Chairperson Mr. David Omuga said that they will ensure that Migori People Living With Disability Development Forum (MPLWD-DF) was united to champion for their rights.
He called upon the newly elected Migori County administration to ensure that the PLWD are empowered through training, tenders, business opportunities and inclusion in County jobs. Omuga said that it was important for the county committees to also include the PLWD in order to champion their fundamental rights.
He also encouraged the county and national governments to ensure that the set aside 25 percent of all the tenders are accessed and awarded to the PLWD.
“We do not want sympathy as PLWD but rather opportunities that can help us grow economically and assist steer the country forward in terms of economic development,” said Omuga.
The Chairperson added that the MPLWD-DF will hold barazas in every sub-county to educate their members on tendering process with the aim of benefiting from their allocated share. Omuga also added that they will assist the PLWD to form Groups and societies to access both county and national funds meant for economic empowerment.
On the issue of Cash transfers meant for those with severe disabilities, Omuga noted that it was in good faith if both the local and national governments assisted where it can those that were not captured in the system but were in dire need of the same help.
Omuga replaced the former Chair Mr. Albert Matara who was removed from office in July this year because of disciplinary issues.
