Minority communities from Migori County have failed to attend the annual event in commemoration of their day.
The two communities’ elders including Kuria and Suba have since blamed local administration for the travel failure and asked for an immediate solution.
A section of the passengers who were travelling to Bomas of Kenya for the annual event of celebrating minority communities in the country on Monday camped outside County Commissioner’s office for a solution.
The passengers, comprising of elders from Kuria and Suba communities, said that they were supposed to travel on Monday to Bomas of Kenya to celebrate International Minorities and Marginalised Rights Day, which was supposed to be celebrated on December 16 and 17.
The group led by Matiko Jonathan said that it was the responsibility of the local administration chaired by the Migori County Commissioner to organise their transportation logistics.
“Some of us have been here since yesterday and we have not seen any efforts in terms of logistics arrangement by our local administration,” said Matiko.
Esther Boke said that they arrived at the County Commissioner’s office at 5 o’clock but they have not seen any progress in terms of their travel plan.
However, Stephen Ouma, the Deputy Suba Council of Elders confirmed that already their logistics have been arranged and ready.
The minority group from Migori were supposed to be joining the rest of other Kenyans at the Bomas to celebrate the day; a day that was created and adopted by the United National Declaration on Minority in 1992.
Kenya being a signatory to UN Conventions will be holding the second United Nations Day for Minority at the Bomas of Kenya; with this year’s Theme Being; ‘Embracing Diversity, Ensuring Rights, Fostering Inclusion’.
