Meru residents went on with their usual businesses on Monday despite calls by Azimio leader Raila Odinga to his supporters to demonstrate against the high cost of living.
Majority of those who spoke to KNA said they were not ready to go to the streets as this would not bring food on their table by the end of the day.
“I have a lot of financial obligations and wasting a single day would cost me greatly. I would rather work and earn that little amount than wasting a full day on the streets,” said Mr James Kaburu.
But Mr Julius Mwenda said the demonstrations were up to the good of all Kenyans especially considering the escalating cost of living.
The residents however maintained that they will remain peaceful in order to ensure that their property was not destroyed.
