The Meru County Security Committee has assured the residents of ample security during the festive season, while asking them to remain vigilant in case of any eventuality that might breach the existing peace.
Speaking during Jamhuri Day celebrations at Kinoru stadium, the security team headed by the County Commissioner Jacob Ouma said they were ready to handle any emerging situation during this festive season and called on the people to be ready to share any vital information for immediate action.
“We are not going anywhere during this festive season, but we will be around ensuring that you celebrate Christmas and New Year in peace. However, we will also not hesitate to take any appropriate action against anyone found going against the law and this is the reason we want you to be on the safe side,” reiterated Ouma.
He said already, enough security personnel have been deployed to insecurity prone areas including the Northern grazing zone and assured the residents that the issue of cattle rustling will not be tolerated at all.
“We know cattle rustlers might take advantage of this season to strike, but we are very much on the lookout. We will not allow criminals to harvest where they have not planted, and this warning should be taken with the seriousness that it deserves,” said Ouma.
Meanwhile, the County Commissioner warned wayward men, impregnating school-going children that the law will finally catch up with them.
He said that during festive seasons, some men take advantage of young girls, luring them with gifts for sex, and once pregnant, such adolescents drop out of school.
Ouma also warned parents especially fathers against neglecting their cardinal parental responsibility of bringing up their children in a moral way, as well as providing for their basic needs.
“Some men leave their wives to fend for the family, which is a crime punishable by law. This may expose their daughters to teen pregnancies, which we will not encourage in this county,” said Ouma.
