Meru religious leaders pledge to support new governor

Religious leaders in Meru County have vowed to fully support the new Meru Governor, Reverend Isaac Méthingia, in order to deliver service to the residents.

Addressing journalists yesterday, the clerics, under the umbrella of the Mission of Christ Evangelistic Festival (MOCEF), which brings together members of the clergy from the entire county, said the New Governor required support in every aspect for him to succeed in his endeavour of developing the County.

Led by the group’s treasurer, Pastor Mutua Rugongo, they said the task ahead of the Governor was not easy, and therefore every resident’s support was required for success.

“We are calling on the new Governor to consider working closely with all the leaders in the county, including the clergy, since this is the only way he will get to know the people’s needs,” said Rugongo.

“The Governor should not only work from the office but move around the county to get the real state of affairs from the grassroots.”

They also asked the governor to be guided by people’s priorities while initiating projects so that they could own them.

“We are calling on the Governor to carry out public participation whenever he wants to initiate a project so that the people can give their views on what they want done first. This is the only way they will feel the value of such projects,” Rugongo said.

Mr. Rugongo urged the governor to also consider involving the young generation in his government, adding that the youth have the energy to push the region forward in terms of development.
