Coast Regional Commissioner Mr. John Elungata has asked the courts to give the maximum jail sentence to any man identified by teenage pregnancy victims as having impregnated them.
Speaking at Galana Secondary school in Magarini sub-county Monday, Mr.Elungata said that the teenage pregnancy narrative needed to change in the sub-county, noting that identification of the person behind the molestation should be enough to jail the culprits.
“When a girl reports that this man had sexual act with me, it is enough evidence. We are not here to joke; we are here to act and ensure children go to school,” he warned.
Speaking at the same occasion, Coast Regional Education Coordinator Hassan Duale said that there were about 600 cases of teenage pregnancies in the area that have gone unprosecuted.
“These cases should be prosecuted for the culprits to be jailed and allow the girls to report back to school,” said Duale.
