Mega water pan in Kangundo to be rehabilitated

The County government of Machakos has embarked on the rehabilitation of the Ukanga Utune water Pan in Isinga Village, Kangundo Central Ward at a cost of Sh19 million

The construction of the second phase of the pan, which has a capacity of 20,000 cubic metres, will take six weeks.

Speaking during a site handover to the contractor, Machakos Deputy Governor Eng. Francis Maliti said the project will benefit residents who, he noted, have experienced water shortage for long.

“I have handed over the site to the contractor for the rehabilitation of the water pan. Once rehabilitated, the pan will significantly go a long way to benefit the nearby Ukanga Utune Coffee factory and wananchi from the locality. The contractor and engineers ought to work hastily in order to complete the project within six weeks so that it can be of immediate benefit to wananchi,” added Eng. Maliti.

The pan is being rehabilitated by the county government in collaboration with the World Bank through the Kenya Climate Smart Project (KCSAP).

The DG was accompanied by among others MCAs Moses Mitaa, Kaloki Ikusya and CECs Titus Kavila (Decentralized Units) and Dr. Ancent Kituku (Health and Emergency services).

On Friday, Eng. Maliti joined Katheka-Kai Farmers’ Co-Operative Society Limited members during their special annual general meeting at the Society’s office at Katheka-Kai in Mua Ward, Machakos Town Sub-County.

The DG reiterated the county’s commitment to support farmers in realizing agricultural sustainability and food security across the county.

Eng. Maliti further directed the department of Cooperatives to collaborate with the Ministry of Lands to ensure farmers are issued with title deeds by the end of the year.
