Judith Wanza is the only elected female member of Kitui County Assembly in the just concluded 2022 General Election.
Speaking to KNA, Wanza said she defied all odds to win the seat, which she contested as an independent candidate.
She promised to make water and roads her first priority, noting that more than a third of area residents were living below the poverty line, hence she will do her best to uplift their living standards.
Wanza floored 12 other candidates by garnering 3044 votes against her closest competitor who had 3027 votes.
Wanza, formerly a business lady is now requesting political parties to nominate more women to the Kitui County assembly. The last county assembly had five elected women members.
During the just concluded general election, Wiper party managed 15 MCAs in the area, 9 got elected as independent candidates, NARC 8, UDA got 4, Jubilee 2, while Muungano and GTAP got one each.
