Mbooni Member of Parliament (MP) Erastus Kevasu Nzioka has distributed Sh 4.1 million under the Uwezo Fund to 28 women and youth groups within his constituency to invest in small income-generating projects to improve their lives.
Among the groups that benefitted included those involved in making kiondo (traditional basket) table banking and mini-shops and intending to combat poverty in their midst.
“Each group should invest wisely and ensure you repay the loans in time under the revolving fund. They received between Sh 100,000 and 150,000. “Those who will repay their loan in time will qualify for higher amounts,” said Nzioka while addressing various groups at Tawa social hall in Mbooni East Subcounty on Tuesday.
He emphasized that the Uwezo Fund, Women Enterprise Fund, and Youth Fund will be distributed regularly in a bid to help the residents of Mbooni Constituency improve their living standards by engaging in businesses.
The MP discouraged principals and head teachers of learning institutions to stop conducting fund drives (harambees), saying they were burdening parents unnecessarily as they could receive the desired money from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
“We are entering the season of public participation to identify development projects. I want to tell the headmasters and principals not to ask parents for money to build or renovate schools. We have NG-CDF funds for that,” Nzioka stressed.
In this regard, he asked the school administrators with pending projects to consult the NG-CDF committee for planning to ease the burden on parents who are paying fees.
