Mavindini FC beat Wote FC 1-0 to clinch a place to participate in the sub county finals scheduled on Saturday and Sunday in the MKJ Supa Cup tournament.
Mavindini FC got the crucial goal in the second half after they were awarded a penalty after one of their players was badly tackled during the game that was played at Police Sports ground in Wote town on Tuesday.
However, Mavindini FC which is from Makueni Sub County will face 5 other teams from the six sub counties in the county during the finals scheduled for Sunday at Unoa Sports Ground.
The sub counties that will send a team each include Mbooni, Kibwezi West, Kibwezi East, Kilome and Kaiti respectively.
After the matches, a county team will be formed out of the best players who will represent the county in the Kenya Youth Inter-county Sports Association (KYSA) scheduled for April 13 in Homa Bay County.
Speaking at the event, the Gender, Youth and Sports County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Eng. Sebastian Kyoni discouraged teams from poaching players from other wards saying it impacts negatively on the tournament.
“We have had so many cases of player poaching in the previous games and this issue is consuming more time in arbitration. This trend consumes a lot of time,” said Kyoni.
In another development, Kyoni apologised to the various teams for the limited time that some teams played saying the fixtures were congested and promised to do better in the remaining tournament games.
“We understand the limited playing time due to the number of team fixtures in the tournament but for the remaining games they will play 45 minutes each half,” he posed.
Concerning the poor officiating of matches by the referees, he said that the board overseeing the MKJ Supa Cup would review and discuss the issues to ensure there is fairness in the games played.
Wote/Nziu Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Felix Mateso was also present including his counterparts of Pascal Liku and Francis King’oo of Kathozweni and Mbitini wards respectively.
