Nandi County Assembly on Tuesday conducted a mass testing for Covid-19 for all its members and staff.
This comes after Tinderet MCA Kipkurui Chepkwony who doubles up as the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) Secretary General tested positive, just before the assembly resumed its sittings.
In a press statement to KNA, Speaker Joshua Kiptoo said owing to the need to take the necessary precautions, the assembly would be closed and fumigated and all the members and staff be tested.
“The resumption of Assembly sessions will depend on the outcome of the tests but hopefully by September, we will be back for our normal proceedings,” said Kiptoo.
In the meantime the Speaker urged the members and staff to continue observing the guidelines for the prevention of Covid-19 as stipulated by the Ministry of health.
“Wear Masks, maintain 1.5 metres social distance and continue with regular hand washing and sanitizing to curb the spread of the virus,” he stated.
The Assembly has been on recess since July 16, 2020 and was expected to resume its sittings on August 19, this month.
