Normal activities came to a standstill in Masalani town in Ijara sub county of Garissa on Monday following a power blackout that lasted from early evening through the entire night.
Operations at various businesses were paralyzed as supermarkets, retail shops and the petrol station remained closed.
When contacted for comment, the Kenya Power Officer in charge at Hola substation, Joseph Ndegwa said there was a break of a conductor on the line from Marereni in Garsen sub county which caused the power outage in Hola , Masalani and Fafi sub county of Garissa county.
He said a team of engineers were dispatched from Hola and another team from Garsen in Tana Delta to rectify the situation and added he was optimistic that power will resume soon.
He appealed to Kenya Power customers to bear with the situation as engineers work to restore power supply.
Masalani residents who are in close proximity to the dreaded Boni forest where Alshabab militia are suspected to have taken cover following the recent attacks at Manda military base in Lamu, are fearful they may be vulnerable to attack in the dark.
A contingent of police and detachment of Kenya Defence Force and special force with the help of Kenya Police Reservists are patrolling the streets.
