The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet, has opened a maternity wing at Maron Dispensary, in Embobut Embulot Ward in Marakwet East Sub-County.
The County, Chief Officer of Health and Sanitation, Mary Kipchumba, said that the Maron Marichor facility, is one of the facilities that serves a large population in the area and with the opening of the new maternity wing, it will ease pressure and serve more women effectively.
She added that it was a milestone in the healthcare sector, as expectant women will no longer have to go long distances, to access vital health and medical services.
Kipchumba said that the County Government was committed towards increasing investment in health care, adding that the Administration has purchased an ambulance for Embobut Embolot Ward, which is due for delivery.
She urged women to make use of the facility and shun home births, as they are risky because there is no professional help available to them in case a complication arises during delivery.
“To ensure all expectant mothers are safe and that they get quality health services, I encourage mothers to deliver in the nearest maternity facility. Let us embrace hospital delivery, because it will reduce maternal and Neonatal deaths,” she said.
The Department carried out outreach services, where the community members were offered family planning services, screening for cancer, Hypertension and diabetes.
