Marakwet County begins farmer identification for fruit, exotic tree distribution

The Department of Water, Environment, and Climate Change in Elgeyo Marakwet has announced the commencement of the Farmer Identification Exercise, a significant initiative under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FFLoCA) County Climate Resilience Initiative (CCRI).

The initiative, aimed at identifying beneficiaries for the distribution of assorted fruits and exotic tree seedlings, is scheduled to take place from July 23 to July 27, 2024, across all 20 wards of the county.

According to a statement from the department, the schedule for the identification process is as follows: July 23, 2024: Sambirir Ward at Chesoi Centre, Moiben-Kuserwo Ward at Cheptongei, Emsoo Ward at Kaptum, and Chepkorio Ward at Chepkorio.

July 24, 2024: Endo Ward at Tot Centre, Kapsowar Ward at Kapsowar, Tambach Ward at Tambach, Soy North Ward at Emsea Centre.

July 25, 2024: Embobut/Embolot Ward at Kakimiti Centre, Arror Ward at Arror Centre, Kapchemutwa Ward at Burgar, Soy North Ward at Chepsirei Centre.

July 26, 2024: Lelan Ward at Labot, Sengwer Ward at Chesubet, Chebiemit Ward at HZ, Metkei Ward at Kamwosor.

July 27, 2024: Kapyego Ward at Kapyego, Cherangany/Chebororwa Ward at Koitugum, Kamariny Ward at Kamagut, Kaptarakwa Ward at Kaptarakwa Centre

The identification process is part of the county’s Wealth Creation Strategy, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability.

The initiative is expected to provide significant support to local farmers by offering them high-quality fruit and exotic tree seedlings, which would contribute to increased agricultural yields and environmental conservation.

Farmers in Elgeyo Marakwet are encouraged to participate in the identification process to benefit from this important programme. The distribution of the seedlings will commence shortly after the identification exercise is completed.
