The Kilifi County Children’s office has established that 90 per cent of the teenage pregnancies in the area have been contributed by broken marriages.
Speaking in Kilifi while campaigning against teenage pregnancy on Wednesday, Kilifi County Director Children’s Services, George Mogosi said many teenage pregnancies reported in the area are as a result of broken families whereby the children are not staying with their parents.
Mogosi also said, majority of the girls from broken homes join school at an advanced age hence, easily lured to sexual relationships.
He called on the Kilifi County Assembly to introduce laws that would ensure all school going children go to school at an early age to reduce cases of teenage pregnancy which currently has recorded 17,000 cases in one year.
His remarks were supported by Kilifi County Executive Member for Gender Social Services, Ms. Mourine Mwangovya and for Health, Dr. Anisa Omar.
