Mandera County has received a donation of borehole equipment worth Sh20million to help mitigate the impact of the drought ravaging parts of the country.
The equipment donated by a non-governmental Organisation the Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA) was to ensure that provision of water and the livelihood of communities in affected areas was addressed.
The donation which included ten boreholes generators and solar panels for pumping water is expected to benefit at least 80,000 households in four sub counties of Mandera North Lafey, Banissa and Mandera South.
Speaking while receiving the donation, Mandera CEC for water Mohamud Ali thanked the non- state actor and said the donation would help in mitigating the drought
In addition, project officer for RACIDA said there was a need to include such projects in the budget as this would increase locals’ economic and social life and help in solving the drought devastation.
He asked the residents to handle the sets with care so as to benefit from the projects.
Mandera north, Mandera south, and Lafey are the hardest hit by drought that has also resulted in deaths of livestock following the perennial dry spell.
