The Mandera County Government has asked local security agents to help in enforcing the Ministry of Health rules to contain the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
Mandera town, Governor Ali Roba, said it was sad that security agents in the region were bending the rules when overseeing the implementation of government directives.
Governor Roba cited an incident where a bus from Nairobi was intercepted with 60 passengers on board long after the cessation of the City County.
The Governor wondered how the bus passed through road blocks mounted by security officers along the route from Nairobi some 1,000 kilometers away without observing the requirement of having only 25 passengers on board and beating the Nairobi Metropolitan area lockdown rule.
He said the driver of the Macca bus was arrested and is awaiting to be charged in court.
Roba asked all the Mandera residents to support government in enforcing the health rules since the laws are meant to benefit all citizens.
Mandera has now recorded six confirmed cases of Covid-19 positive persons against the country’s total tally of 216 cases.
The Governor said despite the County setting aside 78 beds for quarantine facilities, there was an acute shortage of sample collection kits as contact tracing gets underway.
He requested the Ministry of Health to send more supplies to help contain the spread of Coronavirus.
The Governor said the County had started food distribution to the vulnerable persons in the society, urging the National Government to help in the feeding program.
