Mandera operationalizes SME market

The Mandera County Government has operationalized Gither SME market in Takaba Sub- County.

The County Chief Officer for trade, Osman Mohammed, said the opening of the new market with a capacity of 16 modern stalls and 40 open air vegetable sheds, will enhance local business as it enjoys high cross border trade with the neighboring Ethiopia.

Mohammed said the trade department will employ the most transparent method of balloting to allocate and distribute the stalls fairly, putting into consideration the poor, youth, women and persons living with disabilities.

The chief and his team later on held a consultative meeting with the Mandera West Sub-County administrator, Ward administrator for Gither and village administrators who promised to work together to ensure residents as well as government reaps from the new market.

In June this year, the Mandera County Government through department of trade allocated 57 complex stalls, restaurants, well designed Mosque and stores to various business persons comprised of general traders, women, youth and other vulnerable groups in Mandera East Sub County.
