Mandera is on high alert following rising numbers of people infected by Covid-19 virus in neighbouring Somalia.
The country has recorded over 600 confirmed cases of people infected with the virus.
Mandera Governor Ali Roba on Friday said the porosity of the border with Somalia was putting the county at risk of more infections.
Mr. Roba said Somalia Nationals were seeking treatment in Mandera due to lack of health facilities in their country.
The Governor noted the health facilities in Mandera town and Elwak are overwhelmed due to influx of Somalia nationals.
“We are calling on the national government to upscale Covid-19 screening equipment and assist in building our capacity in handling people seeking treatment,” said Roba.
The county has screened 134 people and 24 health workers who have turned to be negative.
Only six cases have been confirmed in the County and two have recovered so far.
