A man accused of transporting a girl child to Nairobi for sexual exploitation is being held at the Mandera GK prisons.
Ibrahim Rashid Hassan who was arraigned in a Mandera court on Friday, is accused of having intensions of transporting Hawa Adan Abdirahma, 17, to Nairobi on January 9, 2019 through deceitful means before being intercepted by security agents.
The accused was arrested at the Mandera airstrip allegedly with the minor while transporting her to Nairobi for purposes of sexual exploitation and marriage.
The court heard that the girl’s parents informed security agents at the Mandera army barrack airstrip of the intended abduction and arrested the accused.
Resident magistrate Duncan Mtai released Hassan on a Sh 500,000 bond with a surety of the same amount after he pleaded not guilty.
The case comes for mentioning on February 25.
Child marriages are on the rise in the region with innocent school going girls being married off at a tender age.
