Mandera County Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif has urged the police to step up their game in supporting the fight against drug abuse in the county.
He called upon the security bosses to tighten their efforts in containing the menace of drug abuse inside the county and along the border counties.
The governor was speaking during Eid-ul-Fitr prayer in Jamia mosque, Mandera town.
He noted that the county is on the verge of losing its young generation to drug abuse who abuse illicit brews, bhang and cocaine.
In Mandera the dependency levels on the drugs coupled with its addictive nature have seen the youth turn to crime to get money to support the habit.
The political and religious leadership of the region have been urged to find a solution to the question of the youth quickly getting on drugs.
As per the county statistics the most affected sub counties in mandera are Mandera North, Banissa and Takaba.
