Police are searching for a suspect who is reported to have eloped with a standard four pupil from Masalani Primary School in Ijara sub county in Garissa County.
While confirming the incident, Masalani Police Station, Chief Inspector, John Munyalo, said the culprit, Mahboub Adam Dahir has gone into hiding and is still at large.
Several people,including the suspect’s mother and others who are said to have been involved in the issue, have recorded statements with the police.The girl, whose name is withheld, has also recorded a statement.
Upon getting the report, Terra Bora Chief, Yasin Farah followed up the matter and had all those who were involved arrested and are now helping police with investigations.
Farah told those who might have eloped with school pupils and are involved in female genital mutilation that they will be arrested and will be dealt with in accordance with the law. He also appealed to residents to volunteer information to security agencies on criminal malpractices in the community for prompt action to be taken against such violators of the law.
He appealed to political leaders in the region to be on the forefront as change agents in sensitizing the communities in North Eastern counties against outdated cultural practices.
The Headteacher, Masalani primary school, Ali Ahmed, whom KNA sought for comment did not pick his phone as he was alleged to bebusy following up the incident with the police.
