Man to serve two years in jail for stealing

A Makueni court sentenced a middle aged man to two years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing Sh20, 633 from an Mpesa shop.

The accused, Peter Kibet Cheruiyot who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM) George Sagero committed the offense on April 11, 2021 within Kasere village, Matheri location while impersonating a Safaricom agent sent to transact business.

The ISO Tech intercom limited Mpesa owner Litha Muendo fell to the trick and Sh20, 633 was transferred from her Mpesa line to the SIM card registered under the accused name.

In mitigation, Cheruiyot pleaded for leniency saying he would not commit such an offense again but the magistrate maintained offenses of that nature were rampant calling for deterrent sentence.

He was reminded of the right to appeal the sentence with two weeks.
