A young man has been sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to malicious damage to property contrary to section 339 (1) of the penal code.
Appearing before a Principal Magistrate Godfrey Okwengu at a Kapenguria Law Court, Peter Ekwam pleaded guilty to the charges of willfully and unlawfully damaging property on April 16, 2021 at Makutano Centre in Kapenguria.
The accused is said to have confronted Lilian Atieno at her business area where she was selling deep-fried fish demanding to light his cigarette.
The complainant refused, and the accused threw his cigarette into the lit jiko and took away some fish and cooking oil.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused and eventual charging in court.
He was handed a three months jail sentence after the court considered that he was a first offender.
He was granted 14 days to appeal.
