A Chuka court Thursday sentenced a man to two years in jail or a sh200, 000 fine on his own plea of guilty to growing bhang in Chuka forest.
The court heard that officers from Kenya Forest Service arrested Peterson Muriithi on July 17, 2019 after members of the public alerted them.
The suspect was also found in possession of two kilos of bhang seeds and 1.5 kilos of dried leaves ready for packaging.
Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Mr. Mwanamkuu Sudi, Muriithi pleaded guilty to all charges warranting his prompt sentence.
In the same court, another man, Eric Munene, from Maara sub-county was charged with being in possession of 17 rolls of bhang.
The court heard that villagers notified the chief after suspecting that he was trading in the illegal drug, leading to his arrest.
He pleaded guilty to the charges and will be sentenced on July 25.
