A man has died in Molo after he was hit by a lorry transporting examination materials to Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) headquarters in Nairobi.
According to the Molo sub-county police boss, Bernard Kioko, the accident occurred at Maraba area in Mau Summit along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway at around 4.30am.
Police say, the accident occurred when a Mitsubishi vehicle’s lighting system failed and the driver, one John Wakokha and the deceased who was his turn boy, decided to stop and check whether the problem could be rectified before proceeding with their journey.
While the duo were at the rear of the vehicle trying to figure out what the problem could be, the oncoming Nairobi bound lorry rammed into the stationary vehicle crashing the turn boy who died on the spot.
The police boss said the impact of the crash dragged the stationary vehicle for a stretch and due to this, the deceased suffered serious injuries that claimed his life.
Both vehicles were towed to Mau Summit police station while the body of the deceased was removed to the Molo sub-county mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Mr.Kioko confirmed that the KNEC examination materials are intact and added that arrangements are being made for the materials to reach their destination.
The police boss further advised all road users to always be extra careful when on the move to avert such accidents in the future.
