A sombre mood engulfed residents of Kiptoben village in Kuresoi South after a man butchered his wife before committing suicide.
The man, Bernard Kipkemoi who is a supermarket attendant is said to have committed suicide by hanging himself using a rope at their bedroom after slitting his wife’s throat using a knife that was recovered at the scene.
According to the neighbours, a milk man who delivers milk to the family went to the homestead as usual but found the deceaseds’ three year old son looking for his mother.
While assisting the little boy find his mother, he was shocked to see a dangling body from the kitchen and raised an alarm to the neighbours before reporting the incident to the police.
According to the neighbours, the couple had a cordial relationship and could not understand why Kipkemoi decided to kill his wife who was a teacher at a local secondary school.
The area chief, Nicholas Kering confirmed the incident terming it as unfortunate.
He added that family issues need to be well addressed to avert such occurrences in future.
Kering urged those in relationship to be always open to persons they can confide to whenever faced with difficult situations and will be assisted in finding solutions that help in nurturing a good family unit.
The two bodies were taken to Molo sub-county mortuary awaiting postmortem.
