Tragedy hit a family in Siaya County when a middle aged man murdered his wife before trying to commit suicide by taking unknown substance.
Residents of Olwa Sub-location in Alego/Usonga were left tongue tied after the incident, which was discovered a day after it happened by the couple’s young son who had gone to visit relatives.
Confirming the incident, local assistant chief Joshua Ombago said Kennedy Oduor Otieno, 40, allegedly murdered his 30 year old wife, Maureen Aoko before attempting suicide.
The chief said the couple’s 10 year-old son had gone to visit relatives in a neighbouring home where he spent the night, but on returning the following morning, could not access the house which was locked from inside.
The administrator said the boy tried calling his parents to open the door but in vain, prompting him to peep through the window.
“He peeped only to see the body of his mother sprawled on the floor” said Ombago adding that the boy hurried to his grandfather’s house and reported the matter.
Relatives were quickly summoned, said Chief Ombago, adding that immediately, the door was broken only to find the lifeless body while the suspect was found unconscious on a chair with foam oozing from his mouth.
The Chief said police officers from Siaya police station arrived and took the deceased’s body to Siaya county referral hospital mortuary, while Otieno was taken to the same hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
