Police have launched investigations into circumstances under which a 54-year-old man died while taking a soda in bar at Kiatine market, Makueni, Sub- county on Tuesday evening.
According to initial police reports, the man identified as Stephen Kimilu collapsed after taking a few sips of Stoney soda that he had ordered at Rangers Bar at around 5.40 pm.
Confirming the incident the County Police Commander, Joseph Ole Naipeyan said the deceased was in the company of his brother, John Muthama, 50, when he fell unconscious.
“The deceased after taking the soda slumped in his chair and his brother with the help of the bar attendants called for a taxi and rushed him to the County Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,’’ said Ole Naipeyan.
Ole Naipeyan said police took the bottle of soda and have begun investigations.
The body was taken to the Hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.
