Police in Samburu County have arrested a man for allegedly marrying a 16 year old girl in Yamo village in Maralal Town.
The suspect, led the police to his house Monday, where police found the minor and a two day old baby boy sleeping on the bed.
Area chief Dominick Lempara said the baby boy and his mother were later rescued and were now safe.
The county police commander Samson Ogello said that the two were taken to Maralal Referral Hospital for further medical assessment.
At the same time, Ogello warned parents found marrying off their teenage daughters that their days are numbered.
The police commander said the culture of perpetuating early marriages has been overtaken by events and those found culpable will be arrested and taken to court.
Meanwhile, the suspect will be arraigned in court for the offence.
