A Nyeri court allowed police to detain a man accused of severely injuring his 10-year-old step son’s private parts for seven days to complete investigations.
George GaturaKariuki from Endarasha, Nyeri County allegedly assaulted the class four pupil by pinching his manhood on Thursday last week after suspecting the boy of having taken 50 shillings from him.
Nyeri Senior Resident Magistrate Nelly Kariuki allowed investigating Officer Peter Njogu to have the accused held in custody to conclude investigations.
Njogu told the court that the suspect’s life was in danger as the public was baying for his blood and the safety of the mother and child was paramount.
He added that police had not recorded statements from the mother and the son.
The court heard that the child remained mum about the incident until last Saturday when the pain persisted and his sister told their mother what the accused had done to his brother.
The matter was reported to Endarasha police post as the public arrested the suspect and took him to the same police post yesterday.
The child is currently admitted at Nyeri County Referral Hospital with the mother.
Senior Magistrate Nelly Kariuki set June 18, next week for mention of the case when Gatura is expected to appear back in court.
