Makueni to get new administrative unit

The government is set to create a new Sub County in Makueni County.

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Fred Matiang’i made the announcement Thursday at Kikima Mixed Secondary school in Mbooni Sub County, where he said one more administrative unit will be hived from Nzaui Sub County due to the vastness of the area.

He said the move will improve service delivery to area residents and also reduce the burden that chiefs and their assistants were currently experiencing, while disseminating government policies.

“We have agreed with your leaders to divide Nzaui Sub County into two due to its vastness. I am ready to gazette it on Monday,” noted Matiang’i.

Consequently, the CS challenged local leaders to sit down and agree on the headquarters of the proposed Sub county so that he can immediately send a new deputy county commissioner to ensure efficient service delivery to wananchi.

On his part, Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana lauded the government for creating the new administrative unit saying the people will now get services closer to their homes, thus reducing travelling expenses.

“We appreciate you CS Matiang’i because everywhere you go, you solve issues affecting residents instantly. This is the kind of leadership we need,” said Kibwana.
