Makueni County Commissioner (CC), Maalim Mohammed, has assured area residents of security during the festive seasons.
Mohammed said they are prepared to provide enough security to the residents and their propeties from damage and theft as they celebrate Christmas and New Year.
“There are many activities taking place in the area during the festive season, some are travelling, while others are celebrating with friends and family and we will provide enough security to accommodate all these activities to protect the lives and the people properties,” said the CC who was briefing the media, in Wote.
He noted that they have received reports on some house broken into in Wote town after the owners travelled to their preferred areas for the festive season.
Consequently, Mohammed warned the suspects and any person intending to steal that they will face the full force of the law, adding that the police will be manning and monitoring the area.
“We are serious in safeguarding the people’s lives and their property, there will be a 24-hour security in town, the police and the other security team have been adequately deployed,” added the Administrator.
The CC urged the traders and businessmen to invest in CCTV cameras and security lights during the night in a collaborated effort towards fighting crime.
At the same time, he has decried the rising cases of accidents along Nairobi-Mombasa highway, especially in the month of December.
“In the past two weeks, we have witnessed an increase of accidents in our roads contributed mainly by the long truck drivers. As the government we will try all ways possible to include mounting several spot checks in the road to curb the accidents,” noted Mohammed.
Further he observed that many accidents were as a result of reckless driving hence urged motorists to observe traffic rules and avoid speeding on the roads.
Mohammed warned drivers who will be found driving carelessly on the roads that their vehicles will be grounded until the festive season ends.
Meanwhile, the CC appealed to the citizens to get vaccinated against Covid-19 virus and continue observing Ministry of Health guidelines, saying the County is currently experiencing a surge in Covid infections.
“We have enough vaccines in all 53 health facilities across the County, kindly come out and get vaccinated. Also please ensure you are wearing a mask, hand washing/ sanitising and keeping social distance in order to suppress the virus,” added Mohammed.
