Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Friday flagged off Makueni Journalist Football Club that will be participating in the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) in conjunction with Laliga Inter-Media Funny Tournament tomorrow at Nyayo Stadium.
Sixteen teams from different media houses will participate in tomorrow’s event to mark the yearly International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Day celebrated on 1st July.
While flagging off the team outside his Wote town office on Friday, Governor Mutula lauded the team for organizing themselves well and wished them success in the tournament.
“Here in Makueni we have been winning in all fields, so we expect you to come home with trophies as our ambassadors of the county,” said the governor.

On his part, the Team Leader Simon Nthusi said that they were well prepared and expected to perform well in the event where they are supposed to play in pool C which has MediaMax, Nation Media, and Standard Media FCs.
Other teams include Royal Media Services, Radio Africa Group, Cap Media Group and Athletics News FC (Pool A), Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), CGTLN, Freelance Journalist, and Super Sport (Pool B) while Pool D includes Kass FM, Mashinani FC and BBC, Mozzartbet Sports.
During the event, the winning team will be awarded Sh50, 000, runners up Sh30, 000, and the third position will pocket Sh20, 000. The event is sponsored by Laliga, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), and Safari Premium Drink.
Also, present included Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Gender and Sports Nicolas Nzioka and his counterparts Japheth Mang’oka (Devolution), Dr. Paul Masila (Health), Engineer Sabastian Kyoni (Roads), and Nominated Member of County Assembly Elizabeth Muthike Muli among other county government officials.
