Makueni Governor, Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, has issued 600 title deeds to guarantee ownership to public lands across the County.
Mutula disclosed that among the beneficiaries include churches, cattle dips, water points, Early Childhood Development (ECDE), Centres and County Technical Training institutes (CTTI) among others.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our onerous endeavor to protect and preserve public utilities, for the common good of the community. 600 public utilities will go home with their title deeds,” Mutula announced, while issuing titles to the beneficiaries outside his Wote Town Office, Tuesday.
“The issuance of these title deeds underscores our government’s unwavering commitment, to ensure security of tenure for both private and public land. We recognize that land ownership is not just a legal formality, but a fundamental right that empowers individuals and communities,” he added.
During the event, he revealed that the survey for 116 plots has been approved and allotment letters will be allocated by 30th June 2024, by the County government.
Further, the County Boss said that issuance of allotment letters to 206 and 104 plot owners in Kikima and Nunguni towns, will be issued in the next 60 days.
The Governor said surveying work for Kathozweni and Mtito Andei was ongoing and would benefit the landowners within the towns, who have not been able to get the title deeds for many years.
Mutula disclosed that the County has undertaken the planning and processing of title deeds of 157 parcels in Soko Mjinga (Emali), 349 in Kibwezi, and 410 in misogeni, Makindu, saying the Bill is ready to be presented in the County Assembly for passage.
“In collaboration with the National Ministry for Lands through the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP), we undertook planning and issuing title deeds of the parcels in Emali, Kibwezi, and Makindu towns and are ready to be tabled at the County Assembly for subsequent passage of the Bill,” he revealed.
Mutula further said that other areas that will benefit include residents of Kathekani ‘B’ Settlement Scheme, Ngai- Ndethya, Nguu, Ngiluni, and Kinyoo among others.
