Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has flagged off a team to represent the County in the Kenya Youth Intercounty Sports Association (KYISA) games in Homabay County that are scheduled from April 13 to 19, 2025.
Mutula flagged off the team outside his office in Wote town on Friday. The team is expected to play different games including football, volleyball, netball and basketball for both men and women, respectively.
Addressing the sportsmen and women, the Governor urged them to focus and defend their title that they won in Malindi during the KYISA games last year.
“You have a responsibility to prove that Makueni has talent in this county. You are not just participating—you are going to defend the crown,” said Mutula while giving the team the County Flag.
He expressed confidence in the team, which was formed immediately after the conclusion of MKJ Supa two weeks ago. Last year Makueni won Gold in men’s volleyball and women’s football, respectively.
During the event, the governor said that the county government will train referees in the county to ensure they referee football and other matches well so as to promote sports in the county.
He also assured the sportsmen and women of the government’s support during the period they will be in Homabay for the competitions. The players playing in the games are aged between 18 and 23 years old.
