Maina Njenga released on bond

Nakuru Principal magistrate Kipkurui Kibelyon has released former Mungiki leader, Maina Njenga on a Shs.100,000 bond, pending hearing of charges against him.

Kibelyon also directed that Njenga was restricted from making statements concerning the case through the press or public rallies, also he was told not to make any contact with the witnesses and any violation of the ruling will lead to cancelation of the bond.

Njenga denied allegations of illegal possession of two fire arms and bhang which was found in his home which is in Wanyororo village in Bahati Sub- County.

He, alongside eleven others, were alleged to recruit members into illegal sect group Mungiki, engaging in criminal activities and possession of records likely to be useful to prepare crime.

He was also accused of being in possession of military blackstrap which belonged to the National Police Service and is suspected to be stolen.

Maina pleaded not guilty to the charges and through his lawyer senior counsel Martha Karua said that the move was politically motivated. He was also represented by Prof. George Wajackoya, Orlale Cheche, Ndegwa Njiru and Simon Mbugua.

Njenga was also accompanied by former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, former Muranga governor Mwangi wa Iria and former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

Maina was told to return to court on 20th of June 2023 for further directions.
