The Maendeleo ya wanawake organisation has kicked off a campaign to sensitize the public on the importance of hygiene to keep Coronavirus at bay.
Siaya county MYWO branch chairperson, Patricia Apoli said that grassroots officials in all the six sub counties in the area were currently carrying out campaigns targeting women and the youth.
Speaking to the press in Siaya town, yesterday Apoli said the officials were putting emphasis on hand washing and general hygiene as well as social distancing.
“Women are the custodians of the children and family at large, hence our decision to target them,” said the MYWO boss adding that by targeting women, the society was likely to change noting women are a major influence to the society.
She called on the public to adhere to the ministry of health guidelines aimed at curbing the spread of the deadly virus that has so far claimed 122 lives in the country.
Apoli at the same time hailed the government for distributing sanitizers to the public but called for expansion of the programme.
“The government should step up efforts to provide more sanitisers and masks especially to the bodaboda operators and the vulnerable in the society who cannot afford,” she said.
