Facilities to be used during the Madaraka Day celebrations to be held in Embu on June 1 are almost ready.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said Tuesday that only about four days of civil works are remaining and that structures at Embu’s Moi Stadium and the Regional Commissioner’s residence will be ready by Sunday.
Mr Omollo, who led a high-powered team from the National Steering Committee on an inspection tour of the facilities, said the Embu Stadium has been upgraded and urged residents of Embu and neighbouring counties to turn out for the celebrations in large numbers.
Mr Omollo disclosed that the celebrations on June 1 will be preceded by a business exposition whose theme will be Co-operatives, MSMEs, Trade and Revenue.
President William Ruto will open the Expo, which will be closed by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Appealing to residents to show up for the festivities in large numbers, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire said Embu people had a lot to show gratitude for following the selection of Embu as the host of this year’s Madaraka Day.
She said besides the stadium upgrade, Embu had also benefited from road upgrades.
She also added that the Maternal and Child care unit at the Embu Level 5 hospital had also received a facelift.
The governor added that besides opening the trade expo, President Ruto will take time to lay the foundation stone of the proposed four-storey Embu market.
