Luo Benga Musician Erick Omondi Odit alias Omondi Longlilo has finally been laid to rest at his rural home in Bondo sub-county.
His body was interred at his home in Gombe village at around 11.00 am Friday in a burial ceremony that was attended by hundreds of mourners including his fellow musicians and fans.
Speaking during the ceremony that was very peaceful despite the big number of mourners, Omondi’s fellow musicians led by Chairman of Siaya County Musicians Association Dr. Osito Kale and Treasurer Odhiambo Tusker thanked their fans for having conducted themselves with decorum.
They thanked the fans for according the departed colleague maximum respect, noting that contrary to expectations that the burial was going to be chaotic, it turned out to be one of the most peaceful ceremonies.
Osito took the opportunity to impress upon Kenyans and especially the social media users against the habit of giving inflammatory and inciting information whenever a musician has died.
He stated that they are capable of handling their issues and solving their difference as musicians and would therefore not wish to have commotions with each other just because of inflammatory statements from social media.
The burial ceremony was also attended by music producers led by Harry Kamau Ongati who told Longlilo’s fans who will continue trooping into his home to pay their last respect even after the burial to continue exercising utmost discipline and respect to the law to avoid getting into problems with the law enforcement agencies.
Omondi Longlilo who succumbed to cancer has left behind one wife Gorrety Awino Omondi and three daughters.
