Mahiga Primary School in Mautuma Ward has received a major boost after Lugari legislator Nabii Nabwera launched construction of an eight-classroom storey block worth Sh18 million.
Speaking after the ground-breaking ceremony, Nabwera said he is determined to transform the infrastructure in Lugari schools and provide a conducive environment that will enable learners to explore their full potential.
The first-time lawmaker who decried the sorry state of infrastructure in many schools in Lugari reprimanded his predecessors for neglecting the plight of learners in the constituency.
Nabwera and other leaders, including ward representatives Charles Anyona (Mautuma), Grey Moi (Lugari), Dan Mukwami (Lwandeti), and Lumakanda Assistant County Commissioner Christine Cheboi, called for collective and focused efforts from all stakeholders in order to
enhance the constituency’s education standards.
The leaders said all stakeholders must work in tandem and accord the children the best learning environment for them to excel in their studies.
Nabwera took issue with parents for abdicating their parental responsibilities of guiding their children and leaving the teachers to bear the burden.
He reminded parents that children are a blessing from God, and the only inheritance they can currently give them is a proper education.
Cheboi lauded the MP for the relentless effort he has made to transform the constituency’s education sector since his election last year.
She said education is the greatest equaliser, and each child must be given a conducive environment and the necessary support to get an education.
“Majority of people are successful in life because of education. With education, one can be employed, and if they are not employed, they will have the knowledge and skills to economically uplift themselves,” she said.
Mukwami said all education stakeholders need to complement each other by proactively playing their respective roles for society to move forward.
He told parents that if their Member of Parliament provides the necessary infrastructure in their schools, they should not again wait for him to buy uniforms and books for their children.
Moi blasted contractors who have been doing shoddy work whenever they are given a chance to construct classrooms.
He urged members of the public to always keep a close eye on a project whenever it is launched in order to ensure it is done to the required standards.
“Let us be watchful and ensure the structures are up to standard. We should not waste public funds on poorly done projects,” he said.
