Male parents and guardians have been challenged to actively participate in their children’s education affairs by supporting academic programmes including attending meetings at school whenever invited.
Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera who spoke at Mbagara Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church Sunday reprimanded men for failing to support their children’s academic journey citing their poor attendance at school meetings.
He lamented that men have abdicated their parental responsibilities and relegated the education affairs of their children to their wives which was partly to blame for poor academic results.
He said as schools reopen for second term, parents should ensure their children report back to school and work hard to reciprocate the efforts his office was putting in to uplift the constituency’s education standards.
“I only have one problem. The male parents in this constituency are not actively engaged in the education affairs of their children.” Nabwera said.
“One of the reasons children in our schools are not performing well is that male parents are not going to school or attending school meetings to talk to them. Every time a meeting is called only the female parents with a handful of men turn up,” he noted.
The lawmaker urged women to stop electing men in the school Parents Associations if they were not ready to partake in the school meetings whenever required.
“If you go to a school meeting meant to elect the parents’ association and you are the majority, kindly elect yourselves. You should not shoulder the burden of absent men,” he said.
He challenged men to change and get involved in the education affairs of their children if they want to see them excel in their studies, emphasizing that education remains key to their better future.
