A stern warning has been issued to residents of Loita ward in Narok South Sub County not to sell their parcels of land, following a successful completion of land demarcation in the area.
The area Deputy County Commissioner George Omolo cautioned the residents against disposing off their huge parcels of land at a throw away price and later remain landless after squandering all the money obtained from the sale of land.
Omolo said in the case where the family has agreed to sell their parcel of land, the issue should be discussed by the entire family, who will agree on how the money obtained from the sale of land will benefit the entire family.
He challenged buyers and sellers of the vital commodity to engage legal minds to avoid fraudsters who take advantage of people’s illiteracy to con them money.
Omolo who is barely two months old in the sub county, acknowledged that the land issue was a thorn in the fresh area as many cases he has been resolving in his office revolve around land matters.
“Those selling or buying land should follow the law. First, all the mature family members have to be brought on board and agree on the parcel of land to be sold and how they will spend the money from the land sale. It is criminal for a man to sell a family land without the knowledge of the wife,” he said.
The Loita residents were instead challenged to develop their land by doing modern crop and dairy farming so that they can earn a living from their expansive pieces of land.
They were also dared to use the land documentation to take loans from financial institutions so as to boost their income levels and eradicate poverty.
“Land is a precious commodity and if well utilized, it can make the people very wealthy. There is no need of selling your land to outsiders who will come and develop the area leaving you landless,” he advised.
