Loader killed after jumping from lorry

A man was on Friday killed when a lorry he was travelling in veered off the road and landed in a ditch along the Muuani-Kalumbe road in Kilungu Sub-county of Makueni.

The victim died when he jumped from the top of the lorry that was ferrying timber to Kilungu town.

Another man who was onboard the lorry was critically injured while a third person sustained minor injuries and both were rushed to Kilungu Sub-county hospital for treatment, however the driver came out unscathed.

“The loaded lorry landed on the man who jumped out of the vehicle killing him on the spot,” said Makueni Deputy County Police Commander Mr. Justus Kitetu while talking to Kenya News Agency in his Wote office.

Kitetu said that the cause of the accident could not be determined immediately until the lorry is inspected and added that the badly damaged lorry was towed to Kyambeke Police Station.

However, the deputy county police commander appealed to motorists to observe traffic rules in order to avoid preventable accidents.

Further he warned loaders against sitting on top of overloaded vehicles saying they risked prosecution if found.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kilungu Sub-county hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting post-mortem.
