Leopard kills 14 sheep in Homa-bay

Residents of Pundo village in Kalanya Kanyango Sub Location of Homa Bay County are living in fear after stray leopards invaded the area.

The number of stray leopards has increased in the area  and are terrorising residents by attacking their livestock at night.

This came after the wild animals attacked and killed 14 sheep and injured six others in one of the homesteads within the region on Monday night.

The leopard raided the home at night and killed the livestock while the owner of the livestock was a sleep.

Confirming the incident to  KNA, area assistant chief Joshua Okach said that they have ascertained that the livestock were killed by a leopard.

Okach further decried high number of cases being reported of livestock attacks by leopards in the area.

The administrator further revealed that last week a similar attack was carried out in Muche village within the same Sub location where a leopard killed six sheep and a calf belonging to a farmer in the region.

He called upon the Kenya Wildlife Service officers in Homa Bay County to intervene so that the residents can rear livestock successfully.

Contacted for comments Homa bay County Kenya Wildlife Services officer Grace Wendot  however assured the residents that already she had sent out rangers to track the wild animal

Wendot further called on the community to work closely with KWS in reporting such cases once they detect the wild animals.
