Lekiji residents get a new health facility

Residents of Lekiji in Laikipia North Sub-county have a reason to smile after the launch of a Lekiji Health Dispensary that would ease the burden of traveling for longer distances in search of medical services.

Laikipia County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of health Ms Rose Maitai said that opening of the facility is one the county government’s efforts aimed at streamlining seamless health services closer to residents.

Residents said that they have been seeking health services at Mpala Research Center that is a distance away traversing through areas inhibited by animals in bid to get the essential services.

They further noted that it was hard for them to access emergency health services due to lack of reliable means of transport to ferry the sick to Nanyuki town for specialized treatment and from time to time they relied on game ranches owners to help them with means of transport.

“We have been experiencing a lot of challenges in accessing health services especially at night, this facility is a big relief to us,” said Lokai Lesian a resident.

Lekiji Dispensary, which is one of the Laikipia Health Service (LHS) outlets, is the first facility to be commissioned in the area.
