Isiolo North MP Mr. Hassan Odha has challenged students from pastoralist communities to take science-oriented subjects with keen interest to enhance their chances in the job market.
Mr. Odha said that science and technical subjects would be required in steering the country towards realizing the Vision 2030 development plan.
He said that the technical training would promote both local and international employment opportunities and as well enhance self- sufficiency in the job market.
Mr. Odha observed that only 39 students from local schools made it to public universities in 2018 compared to 26 the previous year adding there is need for local leaders to come up with a homegrown strategy that would improve education standard in the county.
He said that bursaries were meant for the needy students and warned those who gave false information to village vetting committees that they would be struck from the list once they were detected.
The MP had disbursed National Constituency Development Fund (CDF) cheques worth Sh6 million for education bursary in aid of 70 students who would be joining teaching and medical colleges.
The MP urged those who missed from the list of beneficiaries to be patient since his office would still consider them as special cases.
County Director of Education Dr. Hussein Keriyow urged head teachers and school management committees to safeguard school compounds so that the unscrupulous grabbers did not access them.
Dr. Keriyow said that the government would meet all cost of school title deeds and warned the school management committees to stand firm and protect school lands.
The County Education boss said among the schools affected by land disputes was Isiolo Boys High School which had disagreement with a mainstream Church.
