Trans Nzoia Women Representative Lilian Siyoi has launched a Self-Reliant Empowerment Programme to benefit women, youth, and People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the region.
The programme launched under the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) umbrella will help uplift the beneficiaries and transform them to be self-reliant.
Speaking in Kitale during the launch of the programme, Siyoi said the initiative will, among other things, strive to help beneficiaries access and engage in income-generating activities, which she explained will help uplift living standards.
The launch saw sewing machines, plastic chairs, tents, water pump generators, water tanks, and financial grants being given to the vulnerable groups.
“Through this Self-Reliant Empowerment programme, about 3 to 4 youth and women groups from each of the 25 wards in the county stand to benefit,” she said.
Siyoi revealed that the targeted groups will have to undergo financial management training, which she said will help the beneficiaries have a sound financial management mind.
“Training is an essential element of this programme, as it will ensure proper utilisation of the financial grants issued,” she said.
Highlighting the achievements her office has achieved since assuming power, Siyoi said that through NGAAF, many people who had lost hope in life have started to dream again.
Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, present during the exercise, applauded Hon. Siyoi for her commendable efforts directed towards empowering the underprivileged, explaining that such initiatives should be supported by all leaders.
His words were echoed by Kiminini Member of Parliament Maurice Bisau, who lauded Hon. Siyoi for the life-changing programme, which he said will go a long way to eradicating poverty.
Siyoi was accompanied by legislators Dorice Donya (Kisii), Leah Sankaire (Kajiado), Njeri Maina (Kirinyaga), Cynthia Muge (Nandi), Jehow Fatuma (Wajir), Fatuma Mohamed (Migori), Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), and Real Kasiwai (West Pokot), among others.
